Toyota MR2 Rev5 Turbo

Oh so close to firing it up again! Just ordered some final missing hoses and we are done

Fitting my Blitz cone filter, the old HKS one was disintegrating! However having to use google translate to understand what on earth to do!

Had some corrosion on the boost pipes from the winter, used some wire wool and metal polish with the machine polisher and it turned out pretty good!

I thought a lot about how I was going to paint this, in the end decided to bolt it back on and just spray it on the car. Luckily did a good enough job covering the rest of the engine to not get any overspray!

New hoses fitting, I’m already regretting my life choices here! Will slowly replace them all one by one. There’s some tricky coolant ones lower down that I wasn’t planning on removing straight away, as any mr2 owner knows, coolant change is not an easy job on these!

Moved the car onto the drive due to some building work started, but hopefully back on the road soon

Just arrived! Full set of replacement silicone hoses for the MR2! Not looking forward to fitting them though 😅

Putting it back together

I didn’t like the brush strokes in the cam cover, so I sanded it back and went with VHT Anodised system, here is 4 coats colour and 3 coats of enamel top coat. Need to cure it now, not sure my wife will be happy if I use the oven!

My first attempt at matching polishing! Not bad for 27 year old paint! Started with just the spoiler to get a feel for it, but now I’m confident to do the rest of the car

I’m sure Toyota placed the bolts in places you can’t get to just to annoy future mechanics!

I’ve been slowly stripping the engine down, I plan clean and repaint everything, still not sure on colour, probably HKS purple?

Fixed the rust and the dodgy paint!

Not given her enough love over the past year, first clean in 12 months!

From rolling my arches it seems to have split the paint so now have some rust to sort out!
